Start by drawing with the Pen tool with the beginning anchor point and dropping the second anchor point at the right hand side. Before letting go of the mouse, press the Control key and pull the direction line around to point to the direction you'll be completing the arc. Now complete the arc by closing the endpoint. |
Start with a letter size document in CMYK format. |
Select the center text and apply Warp Options style Arc Lower at -10. |

I want to introduce you to a little known key in Illustrator and what you can do with it. |

Make adjustments using the Direct Selection Tool (A) |

Step 1 It???s easiest if you start with a simple sketch of your design. It isn't worth it to get super detailed at this point, the sketch is mainly for reference. Next scan your sketch and place it in a new Illustrator file. Be sure to lock the image so it wont move around while you???re working with it. Select the sketch and go to Object > Lock > Selection

I like the graphic style you created for regular dialogue balloons, but I prefer using a calligraphic brush for the stroke and a curved tail.

Fortunately, Illustrator has a way that you can create your own default new document that will always open the way you want. You can follow the directions found for Create a Custom New Document Profile (Illustrator CS3) at Adobe's online help. The options described in Step 3 from the online help follows: |
There you have it. Seven beginner techniques that every Adobe Illustrator artist should know. Now work on putting these techniques into practice. If you have any Adobe Illustrator tips you'd like to share, leave a comment, as we'd love to hear them. |
You can rearrange the work area to best suit your needs by moving, hiding, and showing palettes; zooming in or out of artwork; scrolling to a different area of the illustration window; and creating multiple windows and views. You can also change the visibility of the illustration window and menu bar using the Mode buttons at the bottom of the toolbox: Standard Screen Mode displays artwork in a standard window, with a menu bar at the top and scroll bars on the sides. Full Screen Mode with Menu Bar displays artwork in a full-screen window with a menu bar but with no title bar or scroll bars. Full Screen Mode displays artwork in a full-screen window, with no title bar, menu bar, or scroll bars.

Adobe Illustrator has some nifty built in features when it comes to working in three dimensions. This example gives a quick walkthrough on using such features to create a 3D rotatable globe, allowing the earth to be revolved in order to show the desired countries and continents.

This first tutorial at Spoon Graphics covers the process of designing a logotype, this particular logo created in the tutorial is for a fictional business named Purple Lemon, which immediately suggests a modern, trendy, possibly web/internet or design related company. The tutorial covers the complete design process from conception to completion, creating a practical logotype that will work in the real world.

Select the Pie Chart Tool in the toolbox. If you double click the graph icon in the Toolbox you can set the preferences of the graph. The preferences are available (and will be applied) even after you've created your graph.

So with that said, let?s get on with the tutorial! First you need to open up Photoshop and Illustrator, as you?ll be using both. Mostly Illustrator. So get that Pen Tool ready!
|
Now select both halves of the photo and cut it by going to Edit > Cut or (Command/Ctrl + X). Select the Header and paste the photos in place behind the header by going to Edit > Paste in Back or (Command/Ctrl + B). Now Select the Header again and copy it Edit > Copy or (Command/Ctrl + C) as we will need this in our clipboard for just a moment. Keep the header selected, hold down the shift key and select each of the photos as well. Go to Object > Clipping Mask > Make or (Command/Ctrl + 7). We still have our Header shape in our clipboard so lets go to Edit > Paste in Front or (Command/Ctrl + F). Keep this header shape selected and in the Transparency Palette set the drop down to Multiply and change the brown at the top of the gradient to a lighter brown. See screenshot below for an example.
|
Next measure where your gradient becomes a solid color. Also, make sure the break of your gradient is the same for your main content area and your sidebar. I use a tool called xScope for the Mac to measure where the gradient breaks onscreen. I find this tool helps a lot for measuring colors and sizes no matter what program or browser I have open. Place a guide where the solid color begins. Slicing it this way means that you can have a gradient at the top, but it will blend into a solid color well. Consider using guides for your column cuts. As, this will give you more accurate results.

You know damn well that drawing some hyper-magical illustration is out of the question. You're not gonna go balls to the wall on some typographic masterpiece either. You need a solution that's fast and looks good. You need to take some design detours because this design is on a time constraint and a BUDGET. You need stock vector art, and you need it now.
|
Make sure you have Preview checked and play around with the settings. You can decide on what type of highlighting you'd like to see. Here is my final result:

This tutorial will teach you how to make 3D glasses on a carpet using Adobe Illustrator. The making of this same 'model' in 3D Studio Max has been demonstrated in a previous tutorial at Oman3D. You will learn here how easily it is to create a simple 3d model using Adobe Illustrator rather than using any 3D program such as 3D Studio Max. The technique that we will use in this tutorial will involve creating a single slice of the object that we want to create and then using the "Revolve" effect to convert our slice into a 3D object. Read on to learn the exact steps on how to do this.

Arrange your fireworks as shown above. You can scale and rotate the fireworks to create the image you want. Finally, type in your New Year Year. You can see that I slightly rotate the New Year text up to suggest prosperity and progress for 2009.

The first thing we'll do is create the label that will wrap around our can. Create a label like the one here, or you can download the source file (above). In this example, we're going to create a tin can full of beans, but you can fill your can with whatever you want. You can even import an Adobe Photoshop file for your label, if you wish. |

Like I said creating views are simple, and it may seem bizarre to make a fuss about something so simple with a tutorial, you'll be surprised how much you'll use Views in the future. |
|
With a little experimentation and imagination, you can use tools in not-so-obvious ways to create really interesting and seemingly complex effects. In this tutorial, we'll use a number of basic shapes and a photo to create a simple filmstrip. Then we'll map that art to a 3D shape that we'll create and manipulate entirely in Adobe Illustrator. |
The much anticipated integration between Illustrator and Flash lives up to its expectations, even with Dynamic text. The new Flash Text panel allows you to set up static, dynamic, or input text fields in Illustrator for use in Flash. |
In this simple but tasty tutorial, you'll learn how to create a milk chocolate Hershey Kiss! I will not be responsible for those who hurt themselves trying to take a bite out of their screens! |
The tutorial covers the complete design process from conception to completion, creating a practical logotype that will work in the real world. |
Making intricate knotwork isn't too hard in a vector drawing package like Adobe Illustrator 7. On the other hand, it isn't the easiest thing to discover on one's own. Here's my method. |
In the window that pops up, you can set quite a few properties to fit the graphic you want to vectorise. This part really depends on the type of image you want to trace, so you have to play around with the settings until you're happy with the result. |
We have just finished making an abstract illustration, using only Adobe Illustrator. The techniques shown in this may be used in countless kinds of illustrations, character and cartoon, editorial, typography and however you want to use them! Experiment, play around! |
The new version of Illustrator, the CS4 has improved a lot when editing anchor points, now you can align them, make the smooth or corner much easier. The whole idea behind this tutorial was playing with basic shapes to create a nice typeface, and as I've received lots of emails asking me what's the name of the font I used for the Abduzeedo logo, it was a custom font I did using the same process. |
Infuse your work with a high-tech, yet organic look by learning how to make this relatively easy shape. By learning how to create the shape in this tutorial, you can go on to create illustrations like this; with the help of some Photoshop filters. |
And you have a TFT Display for your graphics. You can use Adobe Photoshop to add more realistic look to the monitor: |
