Import fields

Fields can be imported from a shapefile. The next section describes how that works.

Import fields from a shapefile

Preconditions

There is one precondition to importing fields from a shapefile: you must have a correct shapefile, with closed polygons in WGS84. AgroSense can work with files that match these conditions. Other shapefiles might be read, but either the mapping of coordinates or the construction of polygons will probably fail.

Import shape

Select the farm in the explorer, and click File -> import. Narrow down the displayed files by selecting 'ESRI shape file' in the pulldown for 'Files of type'. Navigate to the folder containing the file, select the file and click 'open'. The selected file will be copied to the folder Import -> Shapes.

Convert shape to fields

The next step is confirming that the shape contains the correct polygons. Drag the shape-node to the map, to see what it looks like. If you see the right fields, take the following steps to convert the entire shape to fields:

  1. Open the shapefile, by right clicking it in the explorer
  2. Try to give the fields their name automatically, by adjusting the 'name-property'
  3. Optionally add a value to the fields by selecting the appropriate property
  4. Drag the shape-node (in the explorer) to the fields node
  5. Your fields are ready

There is also the option to convert some of polygons (and not the entire shape) to fields. Take the same steps as before, but don't drag the shape-node to the fields-node. Instead select the polygons you want to convert. The control and shift buttons work like they usually do when selecting multiple files. Drag the selected polygons to the Fields-node to convert them to Fields.
