22. Does FlowLayout honor the preferred size of a JPanel?    coderanch.com

Hi Barry, You are correct, the FlowLayout does honor preferred sizes. You are probably not setting the preferred size. If you are setting the size you are not setting the preferred size, since a JPanel has a default layout manager that will supply a preferred size if one is not given by the UI. The following code shows an example which ...

26. possible bug with FlowLayout and setVisible() ?    coderanch.com

Try doLayout() as well as repaint(). The layout manager does not place the components if they are invisible, so the previously invisible component probably is placed somewhere where you can't see it. doLayout() is a request to the layout manager to layout the components again - something that is automatically done when resizing.

32. FlowLayout Alignment, anyone?    coderanch.com

Orientation is used for languages where people read from right-to-left, instead of the way we use left-to-right. As your topic title says, you are concerned with "alignment" of components. 38. Using Flowlayout in GUI - what am I missing here?    forums.oracle.com

this.setLayout(new java.awt.FlowLayout(java.awt.FlowLayout.LEFT, 0, 0)); this.add(jPanel3); The problem occurred when I decided that I'd rather use flowlaout and have the buttons and text areas shoved against each other toward the left. I eliminated line 7 and replaced it with the commented out line shown as line 8 , above: jPanel1.setLayout(new java.awt.FlowLayout(java.awt.FlowLayout.LEFT, 0, 0));
