      StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer();
      Formatter formatter = new Formatter(buffer, Locale.US);

      // print the formatted string
      System.out.println(formatter);

      // flush the formatter. Here it does nothing.
      formatter.flush();
      System.out.println("Formatter Flushed.");
   }
}
